When a permit is usually required
Blue Mountains City Council requires a permit for most tree removals. Applications go through the council’s Approval to Manage Trees or Vegetation form, and the rules vary slightly by suburb.
Across the local areas Trees Down Under works in, approval is commonly needed when:
- the tree is taller than 4 m
- the property sits in a heritage or conservation area
- the tree is a native species protected by local regulations
- the tree is within 3 m of a dwelling, boundary or watercourse
Check before any tree removal
Removing a tree without a tree removal permit can bring penalties, so the check comes first. A quick assessment of the individual tree is worth doing before you book any work.
We work with every local council in Sydney. Permits don’t have to be a headache once someone who knows the process is handling the paperwork.

What an arborist report adds
Where council wants evidence, an arborist report records the species, size, health and risk the tree poses. Trees Down Under can assist with the permit check, the documentation and the report, so the application is ready before any work begins.
