Tree Removal and Mulching in the Blue Mountains

Trees Down Under is a local Hills District crew handling tree removal and mulching across every Blue Mountains suburb. One team takes care of the tree, the timber and the clean-up, starting with a free tree inspection and same-day quoting.

Why Blue Mountains trees need a specialist

Steep blocks, tight driveways and bush-edge properties make tree removal in the Blue Mountains very different from a flat suburban backyard. Storm-damaged limbs, dead or dry trees and bushfire clearance all add pressure to get the work done properly.

A general handyman is rarely equipped for crane-assisted removal, rigging over rooflines or the paperwork council can require.

What you are actually deciding

Booking removal is a decision about the whole job, not just the cut. Before work starts, it helps to know who is taking responsibility for each of these:

  • Checking whether a Blue Mountains City Council permit applies to the tree
  • Bringing the tree down safely given access and slope
  • Dealing with the timber, branches and leaf matter afterwards

One crew from start to finish

Trees Down Under sends certified arborists who handle the tree removal service and process the leftover timber on site as wood chip mulch, so there is no separate tip run to organise. A full site clean-up is part of the job.

Every job gets the same care, whether it’s a backyard pruning or a crane-assisted removal. Leave the site cleaner than you found it.

Why tree removal matters in the Blue Mountains

Clearing dead, dry and risky trees

Dead, dry and structurally unsound trees are the first priority in the Blue Mountains. A tree before removal may look stable, but dry limbs and rot can fail without warning. Our certified arborists (AQF Level 3-5) assess each tree and plan the safest way to take it down, using our own crane fleet where access is tight.

Reducing fuel loads ahead of fire season

Removing risky trees cuts the fuel available to a bushfire near your home. Timing matters, so removal is best completed before fire season begins.

Building safer defensible space

Clearing trees close to buildings gives your property more defensible space. Our crew is fully licensed, insured and Cm3 certified, and we start with a free tree inspection so you know what is needed.

Storm-damaged tree? Get it assessed early

A cracked limb or leaning trunk can worsen with the next gust, so a free tree inspection is worth booking sooner rather than later. Same-day quoting is available, and 24/7 emergency tree service covers urgent jobs. Find out what to expect on our storm-damaged tree removal page or call 0475 463 597.

Do I need council approval to remove a tree?

In many cases, yes. Blue Mountains City Council may require a permit before a tree is removed, depending on the species, size and location of the tree on your property. Removing a tree without the right approval can lead to penalties, so it pays to check before any work is booked.

Trees Down Under’s certified arborists give council permit guidance as part of every job. During the free tree inspection, they assess whether the tree is likely to need approval and explain whether an arborist report is part of the application.

The written quote sets out the work and the price, with no hidden fees. Once the permit is in place, the crew carries out the tree removal, using crane-assisted removal where access calls for it, and finishes with full site clean-up and green waste disposal.

For the application steps and council requirements, see the council permits page.

What happens to the wood after removal?

Once the tree is down, the crew feeds the branches and smaller timber through a chipper, which turns green waste into wood chip mulch on the spot.

Owners can choose how to use it. Spread over garden beds, it suppresses weeds and helps soil hold moisture. Laid along paths, it gives a soft, tidy surface. On sloping blocks, a layer of mulch helps slow erosion after rain.

Keeping it on site saves buying bags from a nursery. If there is more than the garden needs, or the mulch is not wanted, the crew takes it away as part of the clean-up, much like a green waste pickup.

One practical note for the Blue Mountains: keep mulch thin and well back from the house, as thick layers close to buildings can add fuel.
