A tree needs deadwooding when it shows bare branches in an otherwise leafy crown, brittle or peeling bark, fungus on limbs or the trunk, or broken branches hanging in the canopy. Trees Down Under, the Dural-based team with Hills District roots since 2005, checks for these signs on every free tree inspection around Baulkham Hills.
Look for limbs with no leaves while the rest of the tree is green. Bark that cracks, lifts or flakes away at a touch often points to dead tissue beneath. Bracket fungus or soft, crumbling wood suggests decay is already established.
Hanging limbs, sometimes called widowmakers, are the most urgent. They can drop without warning, and they threaten driveways, play areas and fences most of all.
After a storm, a quick check makes sense. High winds snap weak branches and leave them lodged in the crown, out of sight from the ground. Our AQF Level 3-5 certified arborists can assess the tree and, where needed, reach it using crane-assisted access.
