Stay clear of the fallen tree and call for help. Most of the risk after a storm comes from what you can’t see: tension in trapped limbs, cracked trunks and live wires.
Keep your distance
- Keep people and pets away from any storm-damaged tree, including limbs still hanging in the canopy.
- Treat anything near power lines as live. Do not touch it, and call Endeavour Energy about downed lines.
- Do not cut or drag branches that are pinned against a house, fence or roof.
Document the damage
Photograph the tree, any damage to roofs, fences, sheds or vehicles, and the surrounding area before anything is moved. These records help with insurance and give the arborist a clear picture of the job.
Most injuries after a storm happen when people try to clear a tree themselves. Step back, take photos, and let a qualified crew read the load first.
