Depth Below the Soil Line
Grinding below ground level means a grinder cuts the stump and its upper roots down beneath the surface, not just flush with the lawn. A flush stump still sits at soil height and can regrow or trip people up. A ground-down stump leaves nothing to catch a mower.
Root Plate Removal
The grinder works across the stump and out along the thick upper roots, known as the root plate. Taking this woody mass below the surface is what makes the spot usable again. It is a different result to a stump that has been cut low and left.
A stump cut flush still gets in the way. Take it below the soil line and the owner gets the ground back to put to full use.

What Is Left to Use
What remains is a patch of wood chips over level ground. Once the chips are raked back or removed, the area is ready for turf, a garden bed, paving or a replacement planting. In a Leura garden, that means the space can be put to work straight away.
