Which council applies to your property
Most of West Pennant Hills sits under The Hills Shire Council, where a permit is needed for any tree over 5 metres tall or with a trunk wider than 150mm at chest height. Some exempt species, such as Privet and Camphor Laurel, can be removed without one.
Parts of the suburb fall under Hornsby Shire Council instead, so confirm the correct council before you apply. Hornsby Shire sets its own protected-tree thresholds, and they differ from The Hills Shire.
A permit check should come before any tree removal, even when the tree looks clearly unsafe. Removing a protected tree without approval can lead to penalties. The rules are published on each council’s website: see The Hills Shire Council and Hornsby Shire Council for current requirements.
We work with every local council in Sydney. Permits don’t have to be a headache once you know which rules apply to your tree.

How the team handles approvals
The arborists advise on whether approval is needed and help with permit applications before any work starts. Where a council asks for supporting evidence, the arborist report from your inspection can back the application.
If a fallen or storm-damaged tree is threatening your property, the emergency team can make it safe first and sort the paperwork with you afterwards.
